When Graziano Villa thought of this tribute to Rome and Paris, he worked in the style of a Director of Photography rather than a photographer, starting from the motto Only Paris is worthy of Rome; only Rome is worthy of Paris. He tried to capture the light that architecture emanates by playing with shadows and points of view, to depict the horizontality of Rome and the verticality of Paris. Man is absent from the images, whilst silence makes its appearance: the only sound you perceive when looking at them is that of the wind. As Fellini makes Roberto Benigni say in La voce della luna “if we all stayed silent a little longer, maybe we would understand a little bit more”.
