Omoide Yokocho translates as Avenue of Memories, meaning a place you know and feel nostalgic about: is it a lively remnant of old Japan or a projection of the future city? Starting from this question, Enzo Rocca ventures into Tokyo’s alleys where, in the shadow of the most glittering and futuristic skyscrapers, intricate passageways are dotted with small cafés, street food stalls, and tiny taverns where the most diverse people enjoy refreshments side by side. This dychotomy is perhaps one of the most fascinating symbols of Japan: the parallel coexistence of an ultramodern soul alongside traditions from times gone by.
