Dressel’s main theme, that of looking beyond the wall, perhaps takes inspiration from his own life. Born in East Berlin in the middle of the Iron Curtain, he tried to escape and climb over the Wall but was sent to prison. He tried again, and after various experiences he landed in Hollywood, where he worked in the Dream Factory as a sound technician. His reportage takes us
behind the glossy façade that we all imagine and shows us the face of those who have fallen from that wall, those who have never reached the dream: beggars and indigent people, among whom are aspiring actors who, for a few dollars, pose with tourists on Hollywood Boulevard as if they continued to yearn for the American dream.
