A classic is a book that never finishes saying what it has to say, asserted Italo Calvino. Lara Gencten has approached Madame Bovary and given it an interpretation all of her own, bringing to light its original title, Mœurs de province. Gencten used a simple, naive language, far from her usual style, placed on the same plane of will as the writer who wanted to write “a book about nothing”. The project alternates original images with others taken from the web: a choice that shows how what seems to be known can be interpreted in a new way. The project is part of the exhibition Plural Visions – three young photographers and their emotions.
