Streets are for walking, running, passing through. Some people live, others work. And Gabriele Tano focuses on the concept of work caught in the street. Work in the broadest sense of the term: there are explicit activities, others are less obvious, but thanks to the photographer’s gaze we reconsider them: parents, grandparents, housewives, pensioners and students are performing work on the street. A person exercising is performing an activity. Tano’s photographs are a very interesting reportage of urban life that is charged with a further search for meaning once the viewer grasps the underlying message. At that point, one’ s gaze goes back to the photos one has seen to observe them with renewed curiosity.
