“The whole character of the sitter is to be read at first sight,” wrote Albert S. Southworth, owner of a photographic portrait studio in Boston, in 1870. A portrait cannot be an identifying photograph, nor exceed in mannerism. Silvia Amodio is a portraitist endowed with the necessary critical awareness to search for the authentic personality of her subjects. She masters determination and sensitivity, which emerge powerfully. The dignity of her subjects stands out clearly, both in the most difficult situations and in the most relaxed ones. On display are her best-known series: people with albinism, poverty in Burkina Faso, child labor in Peru, and the relationship between dogs and their owners.
