The first thing you’ll notice in the pictures by Max Vadukul is a big shiny metallic ball. This monolithic object appears in each image: floating above toxic landfills, fields of garbage, bustling traffic. So what exactly is this menacing orb? It represents some kind of cosmic witness, observing our devastating environmental deeds. At the same time, perhaps the orb represents a new tomorrow. Born in Kenya to Indian parents in 1961 and living in England, Vadukul has been a photographer working primarily in black and white for 38 years. He photographs regularly for T: The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Vogue China, Egoiste. He was a photo reporter for The New Yorker for several years.
