Photofestival is an art photography festival held annually in Milan.
Born in the early 2000s as a biennial exhibition, from 2007 Photofestival has acquired an annual cadence, establishing itself as the most important and abounding Milanese event dedicated to photography and one of the most relevant cultural events of the Italian scene.
In 15 editions Photofestival has given life to 1500 exhibitions by 1395 authors, both Italian and international, and has seen the involvement of 679 different exhibition spaces among art galleries, museums, libraries, schools, show-rooms, historical buildings, institutional and private spaces.
Photofestival has featured not only many renowned photographers but also many emergent talents who were given the opportunity to exhibit for the firs time. The successful and consolidated formula provides for the production of new ideas along with the spread of the existing offering: on the one hand Photofestival acquires in its own circuit the exhibitions that galleries and cultural operators organize independently, on the other hand it promotes and produces signature initiatives in its own right, thus concentrating the best photographic offerings in the space of two months.
Photofestival’s itinerary spreads throughout the territory, covering the entire metropolitan area of Milan and touching some neighboring districts such as Lecco, Monza, Pavia and Varese.
The exhibition program is complement by a significant calendar of collateral events including photo workshops, portfolio readings, talks.
Another aspect of great importance and focus is the rich italian/english illustrated catalog, that is distributed free of charge in all the exhibition spaces and in the most relevant spots in the city, and that constitutes a tool for the promulgation of photographic culture.
Promoted by AIF – Associazione Italiana Foto & Digital Imaging, Photofestival is organized under the Patronage of the Municipality of Milan and the Lombardy Region and in collaboration with Confcommercio Milano. The exhibition can count on the support of the individual companies associated with AIF, as well as on the support of sponsors and advertisers.
