Queste fotografie devono molto alla tradizione orientale del sumi-e, una tecnica pittorica giapponese essenziale. Una passione che il fotografo ha coltivato trovandovi bellezza, ispirazione e quel tipico equilibrio orientale che ricerca l’anima silente delle cose. Nelle immagini di Ugo Galassi vi sono elementi naturali raffigurati in maniera quasi grafica, mostrandone insieme bellezza e morte poiché la vera bellezza si trova nella consapevolezza della sua caducità. L’estetica diventa etica, un richiamo ad una presa di coscienza in grado di trasformare colui che guarda in colui che comprende.

These photographs owe much to the eastern tradition of sumi-e, a Japanese painting technique focussing on the essential. A passion that the photographer has cultivated by finding beauty, inspiration and that typical oriental balance that searches for the silent soul of things. In Ugo Galassi’s images there are natural elements depicted in an almost graphic way, showing both beauty and death, since true beauty is found in the awareness of its transience. Aesthetics becomes ethics, a call to an awareness able to transform the one who looks into the one who understands.
