Le città, si sa, hanno una moltitudine di anime che coesistono. Anime che scorrono parallele, anime che si avvicendano nel fluire della velocità cittadine. E poi ci sono le anime che vivono di contrasti: è questa che Preani ha scelto di fotografare. Una cinquantina di scatti che, dal 2009 al 2019, non raccontano né la Milano da bere, né la Milano delle archistar e nemmeno quella stereotipata dei ghetti cittadini: Preani ha scelto di raccontare la Milano diversa, nascosta, dimenticata, quella degli ultimi. Ci sono storie di contrasto e di abbandono, di solitudine e di disagio, ma soprattutto a far da filo conduttore è l’umanità, raccontata tra empatia e malinconia.
It is well known that cities have a multitude of coexisting souls. Souls that run in parallel, souls passing by each other in the flow of the city’s speed. And then there are the souls that live in contrast: these are the ones that Preani has chosen to photograph. Some fifty frames that, spanning from 2009 to 2019, reveal neither the nightlife of Milan, nor the Milan of the Starchitects, nor even the stereotypical Milan of the urban ghettos: Preani has chosen to depict a different, hidden, forgotten Milan, that of its poorest. There are stories of contrast and abandonment, of loneliness and discomfort, but- above all- of humanity, portrayed with empathy and melancholy.
