Le fotografie di Paola Sammartano sembrano figure mutevoli, paesaggi ondivaghi dall’atmosfera molto calda. Ma, come si intuisce dal titolo, con i suoi scatti bisogna andare oltre: questa è una serie di immagini realizzata tra le pareti di sale di una spa. La sfida è intuire e fissare nello scatto fotografico le fattezze che “si compongono” secondo differenti condizioni d’illuminazione, ombreggiature, punti di vista. Il gusto sta nel sapore della sorpresa e della scoperta che, attraverso lo sguardo, disvela forme racchiuse nei blocchi di sale che mai abbiamo guardato da questa prospettiva.

Paola Sammartano’s photographs look like changing figures, wavelike landscapes with a very warm atmosphere. But, as the title suggests, with her shots we need to go further: this is a series of images taken between the walls of the rooms of a spa. The challenge is to intuit and fix in the photographic shot the features that “compose themselves” according to different lighting conditions, shading, points of view. The pleasure lies in the taste of surprise and discovery that, through the gaze, reveals forms enclosed in blocks of salt that we have never looked at from this perspective.
