Black and shadow are two strong stylistic elements in Nerina Toci’s photography. In her black and white shots, an eerie atmosphere unfolds from the darkness almost as if to conjure up a dramatic theatre. The protagonist of this theatre is the female body, portrayed not according to canonical beauty parameters, but rather with an almost dreamlike quality, by embroidering the edges and imperfections of the body. There is physicality and there is sacredness of spirit in Toci’s photographs, a dramatic evocation where the dark overcomes the ephemeral.
