Much has been said about non-verbal communication, especially in our country where gestures have even made their way into a dictionary. But what happens when gestuality is impeded? English photographer Alexandra Lethbridge, starting from images of classical sculptures, which often reach us with mutilated arms, produces a body of work that plays on the absence and presence of gestures, on truth and lies, on transparency and obstruction, mystification and revelation. What emerges are profoundly ironic and iconic works that take on a further level of interpretation thanks to Claudio Composti’s staging, which enables viewing from all angles.
