Umberto Verdoliva con le fotografie in mostra vuole fare soffermare l’osservatore sul mistero e sul fascino ambiguo che le immagini trasmettono già al primo sguardo, suggerendo, attraverso una stratificazione visuale, una sorte di incanto. Fotografie in cui un vetro, una superficie opaca trasparente, un velo, le ombre chiuse sono un ostacolo per la visione nitida, ma offrono così la possibilità di ritrovare quella veggenza negata dall’eccesso di visibilità. Presumere significa anticipare senza aver visto, osservare le foto di Verdoliva vuol dire esercitare l’immaginazione.

With the photographs on display, Umberto Verdoliva wants to make the viewer dwell on the mystery and ambiguous charm that the images transmit at first glance, suggesting, through a visual stratification, a sort of enchantment. Photographs in which a glass, a transparent opaque surface, a veil, or closed shadows are an obstacle to clear vision, but thus offer the possibility of rediscovering that vision denied by the excess of visibility. To presume means to anticipate without having seen, to observe Verdoliva’s photos means to exercise one’s imagination.
